Fresh from celebrating her twenty-first birthday Sherie Muys has more to celebrate. Winning the Deutz Fashion Ambassador in a year, recognised as a major high for the arrival of new talent is the perfect end to her fashion degree. Muys' strong and striking designs immediately caught the eye of the judging panel, who agreed that her bold reworkings of the classic men's shirt produced the standout collection. Muys presented the shirt in different guises, from the long dress to tailored and prim, subverting the idea of the whit businessman's shirt carelessly discarded and then pulled on in a hurry after a sneaky mid-afternoon visit home or to a murky hotel room – possibly to meet an entrancing older man. With the Deutz win to her credit, Muys has taken the sensible step of installing a cutting room at home and getting down to the serious business of pattern-making.
Visiting Europe is her next goal, where she hopes to take up her scholarship. Previous winner Danielle Rolo is currently working for Topshop in London, while Muys would love to work for Paul Smith or Alexander McQueen. Give her time and she will have them collared.
