Class of Deutz

On a cool Tuesday night in mid-September, New Zealand’s fashion community came out to witness the Deutz Fashion Design Ambassador Awards, New Zealand's leading emergent fashion awards. The awards themselves have frown in quality and stature as a launching pad for local emerging designers, and this year's event, held in he Price Waterhouse Coopers building foyer, disappointed no one. This year's supreme awards was won by Sherie Muys with a trio of feminine white shirts entitled 'White Wash'. Judges Pieter Stewart, Francis Hooper, Stacy Gregg, Adrian Hailwood and Petra Bagust were unanimous in their praise for Muys' deftly-constructed white cotton ensembles. Convener of judges Hooper was clearly impressed, "Fashion is so much more than just clothes – the silhouette should speak for itself and this collection so does. From the moment I saw it I knew it was a winner." Muys’ collection did indeed stand out but then again the standard was very high across the board and there was a good feeling among those present about the future of New Zealand fashion.
When asked about her winning collection, Muys has this to say; "The classic white shirt often represents the propriety and respectability of the professional male and his world. However, when worn by a woman the same shirt tells a different story, one of sexiness, confidence and cheeky rebellion."
